Hawks Battle To Draw Against Francis Marion

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The nationally-ranked Chowan Men's Soccer team conceded their first goal in over three matches as the Hawks battled to a 1-1 draw against top of the table Francis Marion at home on Wednesday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

James Randall netted his third goal of the season.   Tren Drexhage and Erik Ruiz recorded an assist.

Charlie Farrar allowed one goal with three saves.  Farrar and the backline conceded a goal for the first time in 383:41.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Francis Marion put the Hawks on their back foot recording two shots in the first four minutes that required a pair of saves by Charlie Farrar.

Tren Drexhage a shot on frame in the 7' that forced a save by the FMU keeper.

The Hawks would go on the counter-attack in the 16' as Erik Ruiz sent in a ball to Tren Drexhage allowing the flick forward to find James Randall in open space to put the Hawks up 1-0.

Less than a minute later, Aldair Anica Hernandez had a shot attempt saved.

Late in the stanza, Wesley Illes had a chance to put the Hawks up 2-0 but the FMU keeper came up with a save.

Second Half:

Sam Hall started the half with a shot on target but was turned away.  In the 67', Timo De Graaf had a shot bounce off the right post.

The Patriots would find the equalizer in the 73' finding the near post.  FMU tallied a shot in the 90' that was saved to head to overtime.

Overtime:

In the first overtime period, Sam Hall had a shot that sailed high for the only shot in the frame.  Toby Sims posted a shot in the 110' off a corner kick from Harri Lovett but was unable to find the back of the net.

UP NEXT

Chowan will look to continue their unbeaten streak, now 5-0-1, as the Hawks travel to Central, S.C. to take on Southern Wesleyan in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday, October 16.
