PETERSBURG, VA. – The Chowan Softball team finished up the VSU Trojan Invite with a split on Sunday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Lindsey Stigler paced the Hawks with four hits including three doubles and four RBI. Delaney Devor notched three hits.
Haleigh Reid tallied two doubles, while Jesse Gentry picked up two hits including her first home run of the season.
EmaRae Flores allowed one hit in a complete game shutout with five strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Chowan 5, Pace 6
Pace took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on a hit and an error.
Paige Wilhelm looked to get a rally going in the bottom of the inning with a lead-off triple. Delaney Devor singled but Wilhelm would get thrown out at the plate. Devor moved to second on the throw home and swiped third but would be left stranded.
The Hawks would get on the board in the bottom of the second inning as Meredith Morgan reached on an error before Jesse Gentry blasted a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 3-2.
The Setters pushed across two runs in the top of the third to lead 5-2 on two hits and a walk.
Chowan loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth but was unable to score as Lindsey Stigler led off the inning with a single to left. Jesse Gentry and Shannon Buchanan were hit by pitches. An infield fly and a ground out ended the threat.
Delaney Devor sparked a rally in the fifth inning after being hit by a pitch with one out. Brittany Parson singled before Lindsey Stigler doubled to plate Devor and Parson. Jesse Gentry doubled home Stigler to even the score at 5-all.
Pace picked up the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning on an error and a single to lead 6-5.
Chowan 8, Bluefield State 0 (5)
Delaney Devor sparked a first inning rally with a single to left. Lindsey Stigler scored Devor on a double to open the scoring 1-0. Haleigh Reid hit a two-out double to plate Stigler before scoring on an Alexis Grim single. Kelsey Sonntag drew a walk prior to a double by Shannon Buchanan to plate a pair to lead 5-0. Mikayla Luskin produced a RBI single to lead 6-0.
Bluefield State picked up their first base runner with a walk in the second inning. A double play ended the threat.
Chowan pushed their lead to 7-0 in the second inning as Delaney Devor singled to center to lead-off the inning. Lindsey Stigler doubled to score Devor. Haleigh Reid picked up a double but Stigler was thrown out trying to score.
The Blues picked up their only hit in the third inning with a lead-off single. BSU had a hit-by-pitch in the fourth.
The fifth inning featured two batters as Alexis Grim doubled to center. Kelsey Sonntag doubled home Grim for the run-rule victory.
