NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Chowan Women's Lacrosse team fell in their season opener to Newberry on the road on Saturday evening in non-conference action.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Tashana Barnett started off the season registering a hat-trick with five goals.  Jordan Nicholson and Misten White tallied one goal each.  Leia Cabradillia posted an assist.

Misten White and Tashana Barnett posted four draw control wins.  Tahvanee Burton picked up three wins.

Mallory Dunker stopped seven shots in goal.  Brianna Bucksell stopped three shots in relief.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Tashana Barnett put the Hawks on the board just 2:42 into the contest.  Jordan Nicholson would give the Hawks a 2-1 lead before six unanswered goals by the Wolves.

Tashana Barnett ended the run with her second goal of the contest.  Newberry led 10-3 at the half.

Second Half:

Tashana Barnett found the back of the net for her hat-trick early in the half.  Leia Cabradillia found Misten White in a man-up situation to cut the deficit to 10-5.

After two goals by Newberry, Tashana Barnett found the back of the net before two more goals by the Wolves.

Tashana Barnett tallied the final goal of the contest for the Hawks with 8:24 remaining.

Chowan will host Barton in their home opener and Conference Carolinas opener on Wednesday, February 12.  Opening draw is at 3pm.
