Chowan Has Frigid Shooting Night Against Lions

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Basketball's cold shooting night was matched by the hot-handed Lions of Emmanuel in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

BJ McLaurin had to fight hard for his double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Michael Kelly posted 13 points and seven rebounds.

Jaylen Dilliard chipped in with 10 points.

Chowan shot 32.8% from the floor and 16.7% from behind the arc while the Lions shot 43.1% and 47.4% respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Jamal Thomas went 1-2 from the line to start the scoring for the Hawks.  Khalil Ridges knocked down a triple before the Lions went on a 10-2 run to lead 13-6.  BJ McLaurin added a jumper during the run.  McLaurin ended the run with a pair from the stripe.

BJ McLaurin notched a layup as Emmanuel extended their lead to 21-10.  Khalil Ridges ended the run with a triple.  Jaylen Dilliard posted a jumper and Michael Kelly added a jumper in the paint to cut the deficit to 23-17 midway through the opening half.

Emmanuel would go on another 10-2 run to lead 33-19.  BJ McLaurin scored a jumper before Jamal Thomas went 1-2 from the stripe.  Jaylen Dilliard picked up two points from the stripe as the deficit grew to 38-22.

Isaiah Lewis notched a three-point play and BJ McLaurin converted at the other end in transition before the half to trail 40-27.

Second Half:

Emmanuel continued to have the hot hand with an 8-3 run to start the half to lead 48-30.  Jamal Thomas added a layup and BJ McLaurin went 1-2 from the line.  Michael Kelly ended the run with a layup.

The Lions pushed their lead to 57-34 as Jaylen Dilliard connected from the floor as the deficit grew.  Dilliard and BJ McLaurin added a pair from the stripe and Jamal Thomas picked up a layup in transition with a quick 6-0 run.

Jaylen Dilliard sparked an 8-0 run with a layup along with baskets by Trejvon McFail, Michael Kelly, and BJ McLaurin.

Kelly scored the next seven points for the Hawks in attempt to pull the score closer, 70-57.  Jamal Thomas and BJ McLaurin finished off the contest with a basket each.

UP NEXT

Chowan hosts Barton in Conference Carolinas action on Tuesday, February 11.  Tip-off is at 7:30pm.
