HAWKS FILES – Women's Basketball
Chowan saw their late lead against Erskine evaporate in a close loss last weekend to fall to 4-16 overall and 4-12 in league play. The Hawks still have a chance at the #8 seed sitting a game behind with six to play.
Mariah Coker leads the team averaging 11.5 points per game. Coker grabs 4.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.1 steals per game as well.
Demetria Bland averages 8.8 points while Olivia Gaither chips in with 7.6 points per night.
Destiny Robinson is averaging 14.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per game in her last three contests with two double-doubles.
TAMING THE LOINS
Emmanuel is 15-7 overall and 12-4 in league play. The Lions were off to a hot start before posting a 6-4 record in league play since their first loss in conference action on January 11. The Lions are coming off a loss to Southern Wesleyan on the road.
Breanna Locke leads the team with 18.2 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. Morgan Simmons averages 11.5 points and Ajah Taylor nets 9.3 points an outing.
HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS – Men's Basketball
Chowan has been on the short end of three losses in the past week falling at the buzzer in two of those contests. The Hawks have lost their last three by seven combined points to fall to 8-12 on the season.
BJ McLaurin continues to make himself known averaging 16.8 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. McLaurin has 12 double-doubles this season, seventh most in the country and is fifth in the country in rebounds per game. McLaurin recently hauled in the most rebounds by a Hawk in a single-season.
Khalil Ridges is averaging 14.6 points in 10 games this season. Ridges is coming off a career-high 27 points. Jaylen Dilliard nets 12.1 points a night and is coming off a career-high 25 points.
CAGING THE LIONS
Emmanuel is 13-10 on the season and 10-5 in league play. The Lions are 6-6 on the road this season. In the last meeting, Emmanuel shot 60% from deep in the first half to take the 74-59 win.
The Lions are led by Tyonn Stuckey averaging 12.5 points per game. Three Lions are averaging just north of 11.0 points a night. Brandon Simpson leads the team with 4.7 rebounds per game.
