Chowan Baseball Grounded By #7 Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team dropped a pair of Conference Carolinas games to nationally-ranked Mount Olive by a score of 14-2 on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Tyler Jones led the team going 3-6 at the plate.  Jack Kane and Noah Evington picked up two hits each.  Patrick Krack would draw two walks and was hit by a pitch.  Justin Winslow recorded the only extra-base hit for the Hawks.

Mount Olive outhit the Hawks 29-10 in the doubleheader.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game Two: Chowan 2, #7 Mount Olive 14

Tyler Jones picked up the first hit of the contest for the Hawks with two outs in the first inning.  Jack Kane would be hit by a pitch but would be left stranded to end the inning.

Mount Olive scored the opening run in the bottom of the first inning as a lead-off walk led to a run after a one out double.

Patrick Krack was hit by a pitch with two outs in the second inning.  Krack would swipe second and move to third on the errant throw.   Noah Evington reached on an infield single in the third.

The Trojans increased their lead in the bottom of the third inning with a three run frame to lead 4-0.  UMO added two run in the fourth to lead 6-0.

Chowan would be able to get on the scoreboard in the fifth inning as Patrick Krack started the inning off with a walk.  Justin Winslow delivered a double down the left field line to plate Krack.  Tyler Jones singled to left to allow Winslow to score and cut the deficit to 6-2.

Mount Olive countered with an eight run fifth inning to push their advantage to 14-2.

Joe Nelms and Lane White picked up walks in the sixth and seventh inning but were unable to string anything together.

Game Three: Chowan 2, #7 Mount Olive 14

Jared Fry started a rally early in the final game of the series with an infield single.  Fry moved to second on a ground out and over to third on a wild pitch.  Jack Kane singled to center to plate Fry for the opening run of the game.

Mount Olive scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning with three hits with one out to lead 2-1.

Jared Fry looked to start another rally in the third inning with a lead-off walk.  Fry would get caught trying to swipe second.  Tyler Jones and Jack Kane picked up singles up the middle with two outs but were left stranded.

UMO added a run in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to lead 4-1.  The Trojans increased their advantage with three runs in the sixth and seven runs in the seventh to lead 14-1.

Chowan was able to get a run back in the eighth inning with a one-out single by Noah Evington.  Evington advanced to second on a passed ball.  Tyler Jones drew a walk and Jack Kane was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Preston Meyer took the second pitch he has seen all season and delivered a RBI single to left center to plate Evington.  The rally would be cut short on a double play.

Chowan continues their Conference Carolinas series road trip as the Hawks travel to Gaffney, S.C. to take on Limestone in a three-game series next weekend.
