Chowan Softball Swept By Anderson

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball were swept at home against Anderson in a non-conference doubleheader on Monday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Meredith Morgan and Brittany Parson led the Hawks with three hits each.  Parson tallied two doubles.

Jesse Gentry and Delaney Devor picked up two hits each.  Gentry posted the lone RBI in the contest.

Megan Vincent took the loss in game two scattering 10 hits and striking out eight.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Chowan 0, Anderson 16 – five innings

Anderson would take an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as two hits and an error led to the early runs.

The Trojans would open the contest up in the second inning with four hits and an error to lead 8-0.

Meredith Morgan picked up a hit in the bottom of the second inning with a double to left center.  Morgan moved to third on a wild pitch but would be left stranded.

Anderson scored six more runs in the third inning on six hits to extend their lead to 14-0.

Brittany Parson drew a walk in the fourth inning before Anderson tacked on two runs in the fifth.

Haleigh Reid was the final base runner for the Hawks after drawing a walk in the fifth.

Game Two: Chowan 1, Anderson 3

Brittany Parson picked up a double to right center in the bottom of the first with two outs but was unable to cross the plate.

Meredith Morgan singled up the middle and moved to second on a ground out in the second but was left stranded.

Anderson took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an inside the park home run as Delaney Devor and Hannah Naifeh attempted to make the catch in right center but was unsuccessful.

Chowan looked to rally in the bottom of the inning as Delaney Devor reached on a two-out bunt single.  Brittany Parson singled up the middle but the inning would end as Devor was thrown out at third.

Lindsey Stigler and Jesse Gentry picked up singles in the fourth inning but two popups ended the threat.

The Hawks would tie the contest at 1-all in the bottom of the sixth inning as Brittany Parson led off the inning with a double to right center.  Meredith Morgan produced a single and swiped second.  Jesse Gentry singled to right to score the pinch running Lindsee Howard.  A strikeout and a fly out limited the damage.

A lead-off single and a two-run home run lifted the Trojans to a 3-1 lead in the seventh.

Chowan had a rally in the seventh inning as Shannon Buchanan reached on a fielding error.  Paige Wilhelm bunted Buchanan up to second before Delaney Devor reached on a bunt single to put runners on the corners.  Devor swiped second but would be left in scoring position.

UP NEXT

Chowan hosts Elizabeth City and Frostburg State in the Hawks Softball Classic on Saturday-Sunday.  The Hawks face Elizabeth City at 11am.
