HAWKS FILES – Women's Basketball
Chowan snapped their losing streak to improve to 5-19 on the season and 5-15 in league play to stay in the hunt of the eighth seed in the Conference Carolinas tournament. The Hawks are in a three-way tie with Erskine and Lees-McRae with two games to go. Both teams hold the advantage over the Hawks.
Mariah Coker leads the team with 11.3 points this season. Coker has 46 steals this season and sits two away from another DII milestone for the Hawks. Destiny Robinson leads the team with 5.9 rebounds.
Keibra Hopkins and Destiny Robinson scored 17 points each to help lead the Hawks to victory over SWU.
Chowan dropped the previous meeting with Lees-McRae 55-53 on the road last month.
CAGING THE BOBCATS
Lees-McRae is 8-20 overall and 5-15 in Conference Carolinas action tied with Chowan and Erskine in the eighth spot in the league standings. LMC is on a two game slide and is 1-14 away from Banner Elk this season.
Destiny Johnson leads the Bobcats with 12.2 points per game. Davinique Campbell adds 7.7 points and 6.0 rebounds.
The Bobcats average 59.1 points per game on the road this season.
HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS – Men's Basketball
Chowan jumped back in the win column after picking up a close victory over regionally-ranked Southern Wesleyan during the week to improve to 9-15 overall and 6-12 in league play. Chowan is a game back of the eighth spot with two games to play.
Jaylen Dilliard is coming off a DII program best 38 points in the win over SWU to up is average to 12.9 points per game. BJ McLaurin paces the Hawks with 16.5 points and 11.2 rebounds this season. McLaurin leads the Conference Carolinas in rebounds per game and is the only player in the league averaging a double-double. Khalil Ridges has scored in double-figures in eight of the last nine games to average 14.0 points a game.
Chowan beat Lees-McRae 87-75 in Banner Elk last month.
AVOIDING THE BOBCAT ATTACK
Lees-McRae snapped a three-game slide with a win over North Greenville during the week to move to 17-9 overall and 10-8 in league play. The Bobcats are 6-5 away from home this season.
Quay Kimble leads the team with 16.9 points per game. The Bobcats have four others in double-digits.
