FLORENCE, S.C. – In the opening game of the Patriot Invitational, the Chowan Softball team took the loss against the host Francis Marion on Friday afternoon.

Jesse Gentry picked up the lone hit for the Hawks. Gentry reached base twice, once on a hit and then on a dropped pop-up.
Carleigh Wildeboer saw her first action in the circle in relief tossing 3.0 innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Francis Marion struck out the Hawks in the opening inning. The Patriots would take advantage of two miscues in the bottom of the inning by the Hawks to lead 5-0 with two runs being earned.
Jesse Gentry was the first base runner for the Hawks as Gentry reached on an error after her pop up was dropped.
FMU added another run to lead 6-0 before Carleigh Wildeboer finished off the inning with a pair of outs.
The Patriots pushed their advantage to 7-0 in the bottom of the third.
Jesse Gentry broke up the no-hit bid in the top of the fifth inning with a single to left field. The inning would end on a double play.
FMU capped off the contest with the run-rule tally in the bottom of the fifth.
