HAWKS FILES – Women's Basketball
Chowan slid to 3-9 on the season and 3-5 in league play following their loss against top-ranked Emmanuel in conference action over the weekend.
Demetria Bland and Mariah Coker lead the team in scoring with 11.8 and 10.1 points respectively. Bland is coming off a 28 point performance against the Lions after a four-game skid. Coker is in the midst of a skid but has picked up play elsewhere with double-digit rebounds the past two contests. Coker is also 90 points away from reaching 1,000 career points.
The Hawks and Trojans played in the fifth game of the season back in November. Mount Olive took the meeting 63-57.
FLANKING THE TROJANS
Mount Olive is 9-3 on the season and 6-2 in Conference Carolinas play. The Trojans rebounded with a win against King over the weekend after dropping the first two games in league play.
Azariah Fields leads the team with 14.5 points per game. Jada Bacchus chips in with 12.8 points, while Hope Toliver and Ivanda Hudjakova scores 11.4 and 11.2 points a night. Bacchus also produces 10.3 rebounds per game.
HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS – Men's Basketball
Chowan moved to 4-7 on the year and 1-5 in league play. The Hawks are searching for their first win on the road this season and are on a three game slide.
Ja'Darien Wade leads the team in scoring with 15.3 points per game. Freshman, BJ McLaurin, is still averaging a double-double this season with 15.0 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. Jaylen Dilliard chips in with 13.1 points a night.
The Hawks picked up their first league win in the new conference against the Trojans with a 95-63 victory at home. Chowan shot a blistering 58.5% from the floor, while holding Mount Olive to 28.1%.
FIGURING OUT THE TROJANS
Mount Olive is 8-7 on the season and 2-5 in league play. The Trojans are on a two game skid. Since the loss to Chowan, UMO is 5-3 with six of their contests determined by one possession.
Jonathan Mebane leads the Trojans with 12.7 points per game. Johnny Hughes III and Darius Spragley chip in with double-digit scoring as well.
