CU Hoops Travel To Lions For League Clash

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Basketball programs hit the road to start of 2020 with a road trip to Georgia as the Hawks take on Emmanuel in a Conference Carolinas contest.

Chowan is on a small win streak picking up back-to-back wins against Converse to close 2019 and open 2020.  The Hawks are now 3-8 overall and 3-4 in league action.

Mariah Coker and Demetria Bland lead the scoring for the Hawks with 10.8 and 10.3 points respectively.  Coker has been in a bit of a scoring slump the past two games but has found other ways to contribute with 19 rebounds and 10 assists.

Keibra Hopkins is coming off a career-high 23 points in the last game.

TAMING THE LIONS

Emmanuel sits at the top of the league standings with a perfect 5-0 record.  The defending league champs are 8-3 overall and have won six straight.

Breanna Locke leads the Lions with 17.5 points per game.  Morgan Simmons and Ajah Taylor are also in double-figures.  Locke also hauls in 8.4 rebounds per night.

Chowan slipped to 4-6 on the year and 1-4 in league play and will look to start off 2020 on a positive note.

Ja'Darien Wade continues to be a stat sheet stuffer posting 16.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.9 steals per game.  BJ McLaurin leads the Conference Carolinas in rebounds per game with 11.9 and averages 15.7 points to complete the double-double.  McLaurin has five double-doubles on the season.

Jaylen Dilliard chips in with 13.3 points per game, while Tahkey Williams slipped to 9.2 points a night.

CAGING THE LIONS
Emmanuel is 6-7 on the season and 3-2 in league action.  The Lions are on a two game slide after a four game winning streak.

The Lions' offense is led by Tyonn Stuckey averaging 14.6 points per game.  Emerson McClung (12.1), Brandon Simpson (10.4) and Michael Wright (10.4) are in double-figures.
