WINGATE, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Soccer team was unable to overcome the early deficit as the Hawks fell 5-1 to Wingate in their season opener on the road on Saturday evening.

Sam Hall recorded his first collegiate goal for the lone tally in the contest. Mitchell Levi Lewis posted the assist off the corner kick. Levi Lewis notched his 14th career assist for the Blue and White moving him into a three-way tie for most all-time.
The Hawks posted one shot in the opening 45 minutes of play and 10 in the final 45 minutes.
JJ Wojciki recorded four saves on the evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Right out of the gate, Wingate put the Hawks on their heels scoring in the seventh minute. Less than two minutes later, the Bulldogs would strike again for a 2-0 lead.
JJ Wojciki made three saves over the next 17 minutes before the Bulldogs tacked on another goal.
In the 29', Chowan showed life gaining a corner kick. Mitchell Levi Lewis swung in the cross from the left side and found Sam Hall near the right post. Hall finished the headed attempt into the far post to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Wingate added the final tally of the half in the 40' as an individual effort by the Bulldog striker found the back of the net.
Second Half:
Toby Sims, Sam Hall, and Trevin Myers had dangerous attempts in the 70' and 71' but were unable to sneak it past the Wingate netminder.
Chowan would pepper the cage in the 75', 78' and 79' but the Wingate keeper would deny the Hawks a goal.
Wingate posted their fifth goal in the 84' to take the contest 5-1.
