Hawks Clipped At Home Against #19 Lincoln Memorial

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Soccer team were outmatched against nationally ranked Lincoln Memorial in the season opener on Thursday morning.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Chowan was outshot 19-4 and tallied two shots on target.  Sierra Gonzalez posted two shots, including one shot on frame.  Carolina Lucci recorded the other two shots.

Danielle Acree recorded six saves in 60:58 of game action in goal.  Lynzie Hulle posted one save.

Play was aggressive on both sides recording 13 fouls for LMU and nine for Chowan.  Six total cards were handed out.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Carolina Lucci recorded the first shot of the contest in the third minute.  Danielle Acree would post three saves in the first portion of the match.  Acree would keep the shutout in the 26' as a shot from distance was punched over the crossbar.

The Chowan defense would hold steady until the 29' as the Lady Railsplitters found the back of the net as a failed clearance allowed LMU to score.  Thirty seconds later, Sierra Gonzalez posted the first shot on frame but was saved.

The Hawks had a scoring opportunity in the 37' but was denied as LMU was cautioned with a yellow card and later resulted in a red card for Chowan.  LMU quickly struck for two goals over the next two minutes to take a 3-0 lead into the break.

Second Half:

Lincoln Memorial stretched their lead to 4-0 in the 57'.  Less than a minute later, Chowan was forced to play with nine players as a second Hawk would be sent off.

The Lady Railsplitters would continue to push forward scoring two more goals in the half to take the contest 6-0.

Chowan has a quick turnaround as the Hawks will host Shaw in a non-conference contest on Monday, September 9.  First touch is at 2:30pm.
