MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Behind three double-doubles by the Hawks, Chowan Volleyball team picked up a tough 3-1 victory over Frostburg State at home on Friday evening.

Sydeny Hiner, Hannah Sladick, and Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a double-double in the win. Hiner led the team with 14 kills and added a career-high 26 digs. Sladick would post 10 kills and 14 digs, while Rosa-Martinez notched 12 kills and 16 digs.
Katie Houston helped defensively with a season-high 31 digs. Ciara Ortega kept the offense moving with 46 assists. Ann-Marie Johnson recorded six total blocks with two solo and four assisted. Johnson added nine kills.
After serving up 13 errors on Tuesday, Chowan cut that number to five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Ann-Marie Johnson put the Hawks on the board with a kill to start the match. Frostburg State would run their advantage to 10-4 giving the Hawks three points on service errors. Sydney Hiner halted the run with a kill and teamed up with Johnson for a block.
Frostburg State continued to push forward to a 16-9 lead as Sydney Hiner, Hannah Sladick and Ann-Marie Johnson posted a kill each in the offensive stall.
Trailing 19-13, Chowan used a 7-1 run to even the set at 20-all. Sydney Hiner notched four kills in the run along with a block by Ann-Marie Johnson and Hannah Sladick.
The Bobcats capped off the set with a 5-2 run to take the set 25-22.
Second Set:
Both teams battled back-and-forth in the set. Hannah Sladick, Katie Houston, and Chloe Putnam notched a kill early. Following the Putnam kill, Chowan rattled off six straight points to take a 10-6 lead. Sladick posted two kills in the run along with a block by Putnam and a service ace by Anixa Rosa-Martinez.
Both teams traded points along the middle of the set until the Bobcats took an 18-15 advantage. The Hawks countered with six of the next seven points to take a 21-19 lead. Hannah Sladick started the rally with a kill. Anixa Rosa-Martinez served up an ace, followed by another kill by Sladick and capped off with a kill by Chloe Putnam.
Frostburg State would even the set at 21-all, but Sydney Hiner and Ann-Marie Johnson shut the door with a kill each, 25-21.
Third Set:
Chowan posted the first five points of the set bookended by service aces by Ciara Ortega. Hannah Sladick and Ann-Marie Johnson's kills pushed the lead to 8-3 for the Hawks.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez ran a string of three kills along with Chloe Putnam and Sydney Hiner to put the Hawks up 14-10. Hiner, Hannah Sladick, and Rosa-Martinez stretched the advantage to 17-12 and forced a Frostburg State timeout.
Frostburg State would roar back to even the set at 21-all. The Hawks would turn away the comeback with a Sydney Hiner and Ann-Marie Johnson kill.
Fourth Set:
The Hawks opened up the final set much like the third with four straight points. Anixa Rosa-Martinez started the scoring with a kill. Sydney Hiner notched an ace and Ann-Marie Johnson posted a kill.
The Bobcats countered to take the lead 6-5. The lead would exchange sides for most of the set until Ann-Marie Johnson sparked a five point rally to lead 17-14. Johnson and Anixa Rosa-Martinez teamed up for a block, along with a kill by Rosa-Martinez and an ace by Sydney Hiner.
Chowan continued to keep ahead despite the rally by Frostburg State. Hannah Sladick, Anixa Rosa-Martinez, and Chloe Putnam chipped in with a kill each. Chloe Putnam finished off the set and match with a kill for the 25-21 victory.
