SALEM, VA. – The Chowan Softball season came to a close in an elimination game on Tuesday afternoon against the No. 1 seed in the Southern Division, Claflin, in the 2019 CIAA Softball Championship.

Haley Cooper, Jesse Gentry, Lindsey Stigler, Brittany Parson, and Donya Salman picked up one hit each for the Hawks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Haley Cooper would pick up a single in the first inning but was unable to get into scoring position. After two quick outs in the bottom of the first via strikeouts, Claflin took advantage of the free passes to score two runs without picking up a hit.
In the bottom of the second inning, Claflin added three runs to extend their lead to 5-0 with three base hits.
The Lady Panthers' starting pitching kept the Hawks out of scoring position for most of the contest as Donya Salman's double was the only threat in the third inning. Lindsey Stigler picked up a single in the fourth but left stranded at first.
Claflin would push across two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead 7-0. Jesse Gentry singled to left in the sixth inning. Brittany Parson led off the top of the seventh with a single to shallow right field but was unable to scratch across a run.
WRAPPING UP TIME IN THE CIAA
The Hawks played in their final contest as a member of the CIAA. Chowan complied a league record of 156-12 from 2010-2019. The Blue and White picked up eight CIAA Northern Division titles, a Western Division title and four CIAA Championships.
