Chowan Closes Season In Conference Carolinas Tourney

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Chowan Baseball team's season came to a close in a play-in game at the Conference Carolinas Baseball Championship on Wednesday afternoon falling to Belmont Abbey.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Nick Rose led the Hawks at the plate with two hits including a RBI double.  Anthony Jefferson picked up a double and a walk.  Jared Fry produced a single and a walk.

Jack Kane pitched 5.0 innings of relief allowing four hits, three runs, and three strikeouts.  All three runs came in the eighth inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Wyatt Beakler sat down the first six batters to start the contests.  Anthony Jefferson led off the contest with a walk and swiped second.  Jared Fry would draw a walk in the second inning.

Belmont Abbey would take advantage in the third inning with six runs.  The Crusaders started the inning with a solo home run before five more runs would come across to score.

Trenton Lee would be hit by pitch in the top of the sixth inning.  Anthony Jefferson's bid for the first hit in the contest for the Hawks would be thwarted as the flare to center was snagged on a diving attempt.  Nick Rose would pick the first hit in the contest with a single to left and moved Lee to third.  Lee would score on Jack Kane's fielder's choice to close the gap to 6-1.

Jack Kane held Belmont Abbey at-bay in relief coming in to pitch in the third inning.

Jared Fry led off the seventh inning with a single up the middle but caught stealing to end the inning.  Anthony Jefferson doubled down the left field line in the eighth inning.  Nick Rose produced a RBI ground-rule double to right field to plate Jefferson to close the gap to 6-2.

Belmont Abbey would extend their lead to 9-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning on a three-run home run.

Marquise Lanier started the ninth inning with a ground-rule double to left center.  Harley Davidson picked up a single to right to plate Lanier for the final run of the contest.

FINAL NOTES

Chowan ends the season with a 13-25-1 record.  The Hawks earned their first bid into the Conference Carolinas Baseball Championship in the first season in the league.
