Slow Start Spurs Defeat Against Wildcats

NEWARK, DEL. – The Chowan Men's Lacrosse team fell behind early against Wilmington (Del.) and was unable to even the score in a 20-13 loss in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Jaxon Martin led the Hawks with four goals.  Patrick Egan netted three goals and three assists to go with five ground balls.

Austin Lee tallied two goals.  Jason Jenkins II, Noah Holloway, Adam Howard, and Alex Clabaugh scored in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Neither team struck quickly as Wilmington scored twice in the first six minutes.  Jaxon Martin tallied the first goal for the Hawks off a pass from Noah Holloway to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Wildcats scored four unanswered goals to lead 6-1 at the end of the quarter.

Second Quarter:

Just like the first quarter, Jaxon Martin scored off the assist from Noah Holloway to start the scoring for Chowan.

Adam Howard ended the two goal run by the Wildcats with a tally.  Patrick Egan scored a man-up goal off the dish from Jason Jenkins II to cut the deficit in half, 8-4.

Noah Holloway scored with seven seconds left in the half to head into the locker room down 10-5.

Third Quarter:

Wilmington did their most damage in the third quarter scoring seven goals while holding the Hawks to only two scores.

Alex Clabaugh scored an unassisted goal before the Wildcats scored six straight to lead 17-6.  Jaxon Martin scored his hat-trick goal of the assist from CJ Orland.

Fourth Quarter:

The Hawks went on a 4-1 goal run to cut into the large deficit.  Jason Jenkins II scored to open up the quarter off a pass from Patrick Egan.  Egan found the back of the net on a man-up opportunity.

Following a Wildcat goal, Austin Lee scored a man-up goal before Patrick Egan found Jaxon Martin for a tally.

Austin Lee and Patrick Egan scored to end the contest off assists by Egan and Jason Jenkins II.

UP NEXT

Chowan hosts Emmanuel (Ga.) on Saturday, March 16 in a Conference Carolinas contest.  Opening face-off is at 12pm.
