CU Basketball Hosts Salem In Mid-Week Clash

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's and Women's Basketball teams take a step out of CIAA play as the Hawks host Salem in a non-conference contest on Wednesday, February 6.

HAWKS FILES – WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Chowan dropped to 11-10 on the season after a tough battle against #16 Virginia Union on Saturday.

Danielle Weldon leads the team scoring 12.9 points per game and hauling in 9.4 rebounds per contest.  Weldon sits with 870 career points.

Jada Lee and Mariah Coker chip in with 9.8 and 9.0 points respectively.  Lee is 20 steals away from becoming the career DII leader in steals.

CAGING THE TIGERS

Salem is 4-16 on the season and 2-10 away from home.  The Lady Tigers have picked up one win in their last five contests.

Nia Bishop paces the team with 15.3 points per game in her last 12 contests.  Precious Price is averaging 12.8 points per game this season.

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS– MEN'S BASKETBALL

Chowan fought tough against St. Augustine's on Monday evening before falling to a 12-8 overall record.  The Hawks are 3-7 in their last 10 contests.

Timothy Bing leads the team averaging 16.8 points per game.  Demetrius Sanders chips in with 15.4 points and 6.9 rebounds.  Gus Rowland adds 14.5 points, 7.6 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per night.  Michael Kelly rounds out the double-digit scoring with 11.7 points and 7.5 rebounds.

Gus Rowland continues to stay near the top of the NCAA in assists per game sitting in third and builds on his single-season assist total with 151.

AVOIDING THE TIGER PROWL

Salem enters with a 13-8 overall record and 3-6 on the road this season.

Malik Toppin leads the team averaging a double-double with 17.9 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.  Christopher Shields and Fonz Hale is posting 12.5 points per game each.
