Shorthanded Hawks Battle Tough Against Converse

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The shorthanded Chowan Women's Lacrosse team put up a strong fight against Converse in a Conference Carolinas contest on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Chowan played most of the contest with 10 players before dropping to nine players.

Jasmine Latney led the Hawks with two goals.  Leslie Escobar and Jordan Nicholson tallied a goal and an assist in the loss.  Misten White added an assist.

Shaena Ravenell tallied 12 saves in goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Misten White tallied the first shot for the Hawks on a free position but sailed it high.  Converse would take a 1-0 lead early in the contest.

Leslie Escobar and Jordan Nicholson would tally shots on goal but would be denied.

The Hawks defensively would settle in until the Valkyries scored two quick goals to lead 3-0 midway through the half.

Converse pushed the lead to 4-0 before Misten White found Jasmine Latney for the goal.  The Valkyries led 5-1 at the half.

Second Half:

Converse continued to take advantage of the shorthanded Hawks scoring two goals in the first seven minutes to lead 7-1.

The Valkyries would push their lead to 9-1 midway through the final half.  Jasmine Latney tallied her second goal of the contest on a free-position.

Jordan Nicholson found Leslie Escobar from behind the net to cut the deficit to 9-3.  Two minutes later, Escobar returned the favor to Nicholson for the goal.

Converse added an insurance goal and took the victory 10-4.

UP NEXT

Chowan's contest against Florida Tech on Monday, February 18 has been canceled because of unplayable field conditions.  The Hawks will host Catawba on Saturday, February 23 at 2pm.
