HAWKS FILES – WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Chowan dropped to 12-12 and 8-6 in the CIAA after falling to Virginia State during the week.
Danielle Weldon leads the team averaging 13.7 points and 9.5 rebounds per outing. Weldon sits with 936 career points.
Jada Lee and Mariah Coker chip in with 10.1 and 8.8 points respectively. Lee is 10 steals away from becoming the career DII leader in steals.
BULLDOG BITES
Bowie State is coming off their biggest win of the season as the Bulldogs upset #8 Virginia Union during the week to improve to 19-4 overall and 11-3 in the CIAA.
Kyaja Williams leads the Bulldogs in scoring at 13.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Pere Alexander chips in with 10.9 points a game.
HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS– MEN'S BASKETBALL
Chowan rallied against Virginia State but was unable to overcome the halftime deficit to fall to 12-11 on the season and 5-9 in the CIAA.
Timothy Bing leads the Hawks offensively sitting in fifth in the CIAA in scoring at 17.2 points per night. Demetrius Sanders adds 15.3 points on 51.3% shooting from the floor. Gus Rowland averages 15.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, while leading the CIAA in assists (174) and steals (60).
Michael Kelly rounds out the scoring with 12.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per night.
Gus Rowland moved to second in the country in assists per game (7.6) and second in total assists (172).
LEASHING THE BULLDOGS
Bowie State has tallied three straight buzzer beating wins to improve to 15-10 overall and 11-3 in the CIAA.
Cameron Hayes and David Belle lead the team in scoring at 14.1 and 13.1 points per game respectively. Saiquan Jamison is averaging 9.6 points and 11.1 rebounds to pace the defense.
LAST MEETING
In the last meeting between the Hawks and the Bulldogs, Bowie State's women came away with a 47-45 victory. Chowan held a 34-19 lead at the half, but BSU held the Hawks to 11 points in the second half.
The Chowan men dropped the contest against Bowie State, 68-57, as the Hawks shot 19.0% (4-12) from behind the arc and 59.1% (13-22) from the charity stripe.
