CU Basketball Travels To Virginia Union

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's and Women's Basketball teams hit the road to face CIAA Northern Division opponent, Virginia Union, on Saturday, February 2.

HAWKS FILES – WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Chowan fell to Lincoln (Pa.) during the week in CIAA action to fall to 11-9 overall and 7-4 in the CIAA.  The Hawks sit in fifth in the Northern Division.

Danielle Weldon tallied her fifth double-double of the season against the Lions as she leads the team with 13.2 points and 9.4 rebounds per outing.

Jada Lee and Mariah Coker chip in with 9.7 and 9.0 points per game respectively.

POUNCING ON THE PANTHERS

Virginia Union enters the contest with an 18-1 overall record and a 9-1 mark in the CIAA.  The Panthers are winners of 10 straight contests and sit at the top of the Northern Division with a 4-0 record.  VUU is ranked 12th in the WBCA national poll.

Shareka McNeill paces the team with 22.1 points per game.  Freshman, Ifunanya Okoye, comes off the bench to score 12.1 points a night.  Nicole Floyd adds 10.2 points per game.

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS– MEN'S BASKETBALL

Chowan rebounded during the week to pick up an 89-85 overtime victory against Lincoln (Pa.) to move to 12-6 overall and 5-5 in the CIAA.  The Hawks are 1-5 this season on the road.

Timothy Bing paces the offense with 17.3 points per game.  Demetrius Sanders (15.5), Gus Rowland (14.8), and Michael Kelly (11.8) average double-figure scoring outputs.  Kelly and Sanders add 7.6 and 7.3 rebounds per night to their scoring totals.

Gus Rowland ranks third in the country in assists per game at 7.6 assists.

PREPARING FOR THE PANTHERS

Virginia Union is 11-9 on the season and 7-3 in the CIAA.  The Panthers are tied with the Hawks in the Northern Division with a 2-2 record.

Terell Leach, second semester addition, is averaging 19.8 points to lead the team.  William Jenkins and Demaruis Pitts are averaging 15.6 and 14.1 points respectively.
