Chowan Hoops Head To Belmont Abbey For League Clash

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Basketball Teams jump back into the swing of things as the Hawks travel to Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday.

HAWKS FILES – Women's Basketball

Chowan is on a two game slide after picking up their first win of the season.  The Hawks are 1-5 on the season and 1-1 in league play.  CU is coming off a 55-51 loss to UNC Pembroke after holding the lead for most of the contest.

Demetria Bland leads the team averaging 13.5 points a game and is coming off a 25 point outing against UNCP.  Mariah Coker is second on the team with 13.2 points per game.  Coker is 17 assists away from tying the Chowan DII record for assists and is 92 away from the all-time mark.  Bland is fourth in the league in 3PT percentage connecting on 43.3% of her attempts.

BATTLING THE CRUSADERS

Belmont Abbey is 5-1 on the season and rolling early in the season with five straight wins including a 65-56 win over #9 North Georgia on Saturday.  The Crusaders are 1-0 in league play picking up the overtime victory against Limestone.

Allie Downing leads the team with 15.2 points per game.  Keyanna Spivey (11.3) and Brittany Sutry (11.0) are averaging double-figures.  Downing is leading the team with 7.7 rebounds per contest.

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS – Men's Basketball
Chowan rebounded to pick up their first league win of the season with a 95-63 victory over rival Mount Olive on November 26.  The Hawks are 3-3 on the season and 1-1 in league play.

Ja'Darien Wade leads the Hawks with 18.2 points per game to add to his 6.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.  BJ McLaurin is averaging a double-double a game with 14.2 points and 12.7 rebounds per game.  McLaurin leads the Conference Carolinas in rebounds per game.

Trejvon McFail made his 2019-20 debut with 14 points against Mount Olive.  Jaylen Dilliard (12.8) and Tahkey Williams (12.5) are in double-figure scoring for the Hawks.

COUNTERING THE CRUSADERS
Belmont Abbey enters the contest with a 5-2 record and 1-0 in league action.  The Crusaders are riding high as well after an 86-77 win over a top-10 Queens program last week.

Last year's Conference Carolinas Player of the Year, DeQuan Abrom, leads the team and league with 26.0 points per game. Romeao Ferguson is the only other Crusader to average double-figures with 16.0 points per game.  Ferguson leads the team with 7.1 rebounds per night.
