Hawks Open Conf. Carolinas Play Against Crusaders

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Basketball Teams host North Greenville in their first-ever Conference Carolinas contest on Saturday with a double-header.

HAWKS FILES – Women's Basketball

Chowan opened the season on the wrong end of a 0-3 start.  The Hawks have been in all three games against formidable opponents.

Mariah Coker leads the Hawks with 16.7 points a night after pouring in a season-high 23 points in the loss against Francis Marion during the week.  Monique Jones is averaging 8.0 points and 6.7 rebounds after a double-double against the Patriots.

COUNTERING THE CRUSADERS

North Greenville enters the contest with a 1-1 overall record.  The Crusaders are well rested after haven't played in 10 days when they took an 88-51 loss to Furman in an exhibition on Nov. 13.

Savannah Hughes leads the team with 13.5 points per game.  Karen Donehew and Damiya Montgomery chip in with 12.0 and 10.5 points respectively.

The Crusaders were picked to finish eighth in the preseason poll, one spot behind Chowan.

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS – Men's Basketball
Chowan improved to 2-2 on the season with a win over Mid-Atlantic Christian on Wednesday.

Ja'Darien Wade leads the team with 19.0 points, while Tahkey Williams (13.8), BJ McLaurin (11.0), Jaylen Dilliard (10.8), Brandon Mayhan (10.0), and Xavier Young (10.0) are scoring in double figures.

BJ McLaurin is averaging a double-double on the season adding 11.5 rebounds to his point total.  McLaurin also leads the Conference Carolinas in rebounds per game.

FLANKING THE CRUSADERS
North Greenville is 2-3 on the season and has won their last two contests after starting the season 0-3.

Jalon Cokley leads the team in scoring with 16.8 points a game.  DJ Brooks, Mercer transfer, is posting 13.6 points, while Jacob Redding, Louisville transfer, scores 10.2 points a game.

NGU was picked to finish 11th in the Conference Carolinas this season.
