Late Surge Not Enough For Chowan Against Crusaders

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – A second half surge by the Chowan Women's Soccer team was not enough as Belmont Abbey handed the Hawks a 2-1 loss at home in Conference Carolinas play on Saturday.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Belmont Abbey limited the Hawks to one shot on frame.  The Crusaders tallied 14 corners compared to Chowan's five.

Stephanie Quintanilla scored the lone tally for the Hawks on her only attempt in the contest.

Lynzie Hulle made six saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Chowan's defense held the Crusaders tight in the opening minutes of the contest as two shots were blocked by the Hawks.

Sabrina Henderson had a shot blocked and Shannon Park's heading attempt sailed high.

Belmont Abbey would score both of their goals in a span of 1:31 to lead 2-0.  The Crusaders would score the game-winning goal on a free kick at the top of the box.

Second Half:

Less than a minute into the half, Carolina Lucci had an attempt blocked.  Lynzie Hulle would keep the deficit at two stopping two shots.

The Hawks were able to break through in the 66' as Stephanie Quintanilla dribbled from near midfield and ripping a shot from 22 yards out to find the back of the net to trim the deficit to 2-1.

Carolina Lucci, Shannon Park, and Sabrina Henderson had an attempt each to find the equalizer but were unsuccessful.

UP NEXT

Chowan hits the road to take on Converse in Conference Carolinas play on Thursday, October 10.  Both teams are searching for their first win in league action this season.
