Lucci Nets Game-Winner, Hawks Shutout NGU

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Soccer team continued their strong play at the end of the season with a shutout win against North Greenville in front of the home crowd on Saturday.

Carolina Lucci netted her sixth goal of the season in the first half.

North Greenville led in the shot department 15-14, but the Hawks posted seven shots on target compared to four for the Crusaders.

Lynzie Hulle notched another shutout stopping four shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Carolina Lucci and Sydney Henderson made the NGU keeper work early as both shots had to be saved in the first ten minutes of play.

NGU would record a shot on frame but was denied by Lynzie Hulle.

Emily Trueman and Carolina Lucci looked to put the Hawks on the board but their attempts were saved.

In the 27', Stephanie Quintanilla played a through ball up to Carolina Lucci near midfield.  Lucci would sprint past defenders and send it into the bottom left corner for the 1-0 lead.

NGU had three shots in the final portion of the half with two of those shots blocked.

Second Half:

Lynzie Hulle would keep the Crusaders out of the net with a pair of saves midway through the half.

Carolina Lucci and Sierra Gonzalez looked to give the Hawks an insurance goal but was unable to sneak it past the keeper.

A late flurry of shots by Carolina Lucci and Stephanie Quintanilla in the final minute of the contest would not go.

UP NEXT

Chowan will host Emmanuel in the final regular season match of the season on Saturday, November 2.  Senior day festivities will begin around 11:40am.
