MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Soccer used a second half penalty kick to defeat North Greenville to take the top spot in the Conference Carolinas standings with a 2-1 win on Saturday.

Toby Sims netted the game winning goal in the 75' on a penalty kick. Sims also added an assist.
Trevin Myers scored the opening goal of the match.
Chowan recorded 28 shots in the contest with six being on target. NGU scored on their lone target of the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Chowan had plenty of opportunities early in the match as the Hawks had four corner kicks in the opening 11 minutes of the match. Mitchell Levi Lewis' attempt was saved in the seventh minute.
Trevin Myers and Joury den Boogert had attempts blocked and Nathan Clifford had his shot saved.
In the 30', Harri Lovett played a cross to the back post that was flicked on by Toby Sims, where Trevin Myers slotted it home for the opening salvo of the match.
The Hawks would take the 1-0 lead into the break.
Second Half:
Cristian Fuentes nearly made it a 2-0 match as his shot bounced off the post in the 68'.
North Greenville went on the counter-attack and found the equalizer in the 72'.
The score would not hold for long as Jake Jensen sent a through ball up to Cristian Fuentes near the end line on the right side of the box. A slide tackle would get Fuentes and warrant a foul and give the Hawks a penalty kick.
Toby Sims would convert from the penalty spot to give the Hawks a 2-1 in the 75'.
Things would continue to be heated down the stretch as several cards were handed out in the aggressive play.
NGU would not record a shot in the final 15 minutes of the match.
