Chowan Battles Saints To Draw In Rainy Match

GAFFNEY, S.C. – For the third time in as many meetings, the Chowan Men's Soccer team and Limestone battled to double overtime on a rainy afternoon on Wednesday.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

The Hawks and Saints battled to a scoreless draw after the Saints managed to beat the Hawks in the previous two meetings in the 108' in both accounts.

Chowan tallied three total shots in the contest with Harrison Ardron with one and Joury den Boogert with the other two.

Ross Miller picked up his fifth shutout of the season with four saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Limestone would notch the first two shots of the contest but neither would force Ross Miller to come off his line.

Both teams were defensive in the opening frame with 10 total fouls midway through the half.

Harrison Ardron would produce the first shot on target for the Hawks in the 30' making the Saints' keeper make the save in the bottom right corner off the free kick.

The Hawks generated the first corner kick of the match in the 33', but unable to record a shot on the attempt.

Limestone notched a shot in the final minute of the opening stanza from distance.  Ross Miller would secure the ball without much effort to send the teams into the half scoreless.

Second Half:

Both teams continued the trend from the first half.  The Saints would post a shot on goal off a long throw in but the Ross Miller would make the easy save.

The Hawks would go on the counter attack following the shot and force a corner kick at the other end.  The short corner attempt would not prove dangerous as the Saints would clear the ball out of the box.

Limestone would post another shot in the 65' as Ross Miller had to force the attempt out of danger looking for the bottom right corner.  The Saints continued to push ahead as another shot would force a save by Miller.

The Saints had their best look at the cage in the 75' as a cross was sent across the face of goal but was unable to get a boot on it.

Chowan would work for a corner in the 81' but the Hawks would not be able to find anyone on the receiving end.

The Hawks would not post a shot in the second half as both teams finished regulation scoreless.

First Overtime:

Limestone looked to go on the attack early as a deflected ball went towards the end line but was cleared out by the Hawks.

Chowan was able to get a corner kick in the 97' as a cross by Trevin Myers would be punched over the cage by the Saints' keeper.  The corner kick would be punched out of danger by the keeper.  Toby Sims kept the Saints' counter attack at-bay with a sliding stop inside the box.

Joury den Boogert recorded a shot at the end of the first overtime period but sailed the attempt high.

Second Overtime:

Limestone would look to end the contest early in the second overtime as the Saints pushed forward and were caught offsides twice.

In the 105' Joury den Boogert found the top right corner of the goal but the Saints' keeper was able to get his gloves on it.

As the dreaded 108' passed for the Hawks, the score remained the same.  The Saints did generate a corner kick during that time but the Hawks would clear the attempt out of danger.

The final attempt of the contest was by Limestone in the 110' but was sent wide.

UP NEXT

Chowan returns home to wrap up the regular season in hopes of a Conference Carolinas Regular Season Championship as the Hawks host Emmanuel on Saturday, November 2.  Senior day festivities will occur prior to first touch.
