MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Soccer team battled their way back to force overtime against the nationally-ranked Francis Marion Patriots before ultimately falling 2-1.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Francis Marion outshot the Hawks 6-3 in the first half. Chowan would outshot the Patriots in the second half 8-2.
Mitchell Levi Lewis scored the lone goal for the Hawks, his second of the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Chowan had a chance to find the opening tally of the contest in the first few minutes as a ball played out to Robin Walsh would sail over the post.
The 24' saw a flurry of shots by Francis Marion. Ross Miller stepped up with a save on one shot. The Patriots had a shot hit the cross bar, blocked, and missed left.
Francis Marion would find the opening goal of the match in the 44' as play halted up the right side of the box. FMU benefitted from the pitch as the ball skipped and redirected into the far post for the 1-0 lead before the halftime whistle.
Second Half:
A header by Joury den Boogert in the 50' would glance off his head and sailed wide of the mark.
Sam Hall dribbled through several Patriots in the 62' but the attempt would miss high. Trevin Myers would send one from the top of the box over the crossbar.
The Hawks continued to find the equalizer as a short corner and a header from Trevin Myers would miss the mark. Chowan took a quick corner, Robin Walsh found some space in the center of the box but his attempt would be blocked.
Harri Lovett had two dangerous passes inside the box, Lovett's throw from the right sideline would drop in front of the keeper and unable to find the boot of a Hawk attacker. Lovett would play a cross from the left wing that once again unable to connect with the Hawks.
Chowan was able to pose a threat in the 87' as Harrison Ardron was pulled down outside the box. Mitchell Levi Lewis would swing the free kick in from the top of the box and deflect into the left post for the equalizer.
Overtime:
Francis Marion went on the counter attack following a Chowan foul. The Patriots would push the ball up the field near the endline and swing a cross in front of goal to find the near post for the overtime winner.
