HAWKS FILES – WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Chowan picked up their first win in the CIAA Northern Division topping Virginia State on Wednesday evening, 59-47, to improve to 11-7 overall and 7-2 in the CIAA.
Danielle Weldon continues to pace the offense with 13.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Jada Lee and Mariah Coker chip in with 9.8 and 9.0 points per game respectively.
The Hawks sit at the top of the league averaging 17.6 offensive rebounds per game.
LEASHING THE BULLDOGS
Bowie State enters the contest with a 15-3 overall record and a 7-2 mark in the CIAA. The Bulldogs have lost their last two contests to Lincoln (Pa.) and Virginia Union. BSU lost in the final seconds against nationally ranked Virginia Union, 52-51.
BSU has balanced scoring as Kyaja Williams leads the team with 13.0 points and 8.6 rebounds a game. Pere Alexander chips in with 11.5 points and 7.25 rebounds. Dynaisha Christian tallies 8.1 points and 7.7 rebounds.
REGAINING THE ALTITUDE– MEN'S BASKETBALL
Chowan dropped a hard fought 81-79 contest on the road against Virginia State during the week to fall to 11-5 overall and 4-4 in the CIAA.
Timothy Bing paces the starting five in double-digits with 17.8 points per game. Demetrius Sanders (16.1), Gus Rowland (14.9), and Michael Kelly (11.1) score in double-figures. Bing is averaging 21.0 points per game in CIAA action.
Gus Rowland is fourth in the NCAA in assists per game dishing out 7.6 assist a game.
ATTACKING THE BULLDOGS
Bowie State is 11-9 overall and 7-2 in the CIAA this season. The Bulldogs are coming off a three point loss to Virginia Union during the week.
Cameron Hayes leads the offense with 13.6 points. David Belle chips in with 12.2 points a game. Saiquan Jamison adds 9.6 points and 11.5 rebounds a night.
BSU has won the last two meetings in Murfreesboro.
