Hawks and Fleet Soar To Overtime Draw

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's soccer team had a goal waved off in the final seconds of regulation as the Hawks and Erskine battled to a 0-0 double overtime draw in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Carolina Lucci had the game-winning goal waved off in the final seconds of regulation.

The Hawks outshot Erskine 16-10 and 10-5 with targets on frame.

Olivia Borer held the Fleet scoreless with five saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Sabrina Henderson tallied the first shot for the Hawks in the third minute of action but was saved.

Both teams would battle for possession in the half with neither side having a strong scoring chance.

Second Half:

Erskine would come out of the half firing with two shots on goal in the first four minutes of the half.

Off a corner kick, Shannon Park recorded a header but was saved.

Carolina Lucci came up with a loose ball as an Erskine defender and the keeper collided with one another.  Lucci ripped the short range shot for the goal but was waved off as the head official called a foul.

First Overtime:

Sabrina Henderson thought she had the game-winner early in the first overtime from the right wing.  An Erskine defender would clear it off the line before crossing.  Monae Moore would put the clear attempt back towards the cage but bounced off the pipe.

Second Overtime:

Carolina Lucci and Sabrina Henderson recorded shots in the second overtime but were unsuccessful.

Chowan returns to the pitch on Wednesday, October 3 as the Hawks face Mount Olive at home.
