MURFREESBORO, N.C. – An early goal lifted the Chowan Women's Soccer team past Mount Olive in a Conference Carolinas match on Wednesday afternoon, 2-1.

Both teams were evenly matched for the contest as the Hawks held the slight 10-9 advantage on shots. Mount Olive registered seven shots on frame and held the Hawks to just four.
Sabrina Henderson and Sydney Henderson tallied a goal each for the Hawks. Carolina Lucci posted the assists on the goals.
Olivia Borer notched six saves on the afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Chowan looked to get on the board in the second minute of action but was called for offsides.
In the fourth minute of play, Carolina Lucci slotted a ball up to Sabrina Henderson and found the far post for the 1-0 lead.
Carolina Lucci ripped a shot in the 9' but was saved by the Trojan keeper.
Mount Olive recorded a dangerous shot in the 37' but the headed attempt was snatched out of the air by Olivia Borer.
Second Half:
Mount Olive pushed forward early in the half as the Hawks made them pay for it as Sydney Henderson scored off a pass from Carolina Lucci on the counter attack to lead 2-0 in the 65'.
The Trojans answered with their first goal of the match in the 68' as the pass found the foot of the Trojan in the middle of the box.
Sierra Gonzalez just missed the back of the net as the Trojan keeper pushed the attempt off the post.
UMO looked to find the equalizer in the final minute but the Chowan defense and Olivia Borer kept the ball out of the back of the net.
