CU CHAMPIONS DAY
The Athletic Department will recognize two groups this Saturday. First, all student-athletes with a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average. Second, the 2018 conference championship teams will be recognized. The CU softball team claimed the 2018 CIAA Conference Championship and the CU men's and women's tennis teams each claimed 2018 Conference Carolinas titles.

HAWKS' PROMISING START TO 2018
Chowan has faced two Division I opponents to start the season, Campbell and Davidson, that have a combined 5-1 record.  The Hawks were able to put up points against these programs averaging 27 points per game and averaging 369.0 yards per contest.

The Chowan defense led by Dre Terry, Antwuan Hicks and Josh Berry have created havoc so far on opposing offenses with seven takeaways.  Calvin Stephens, Marcus Devin and George Parker have picked off a pass this season.  Stephens returned his interception for a 57-yd touchdown in the season opener.

Tyrell Freeman is averaging 16.5 carries a contest for 74.0 yards a game.  Bryce Witt has found a connection with Torry Baker, as the two have connected for two touchdowns on 14 receptions.  Baker is averaging 92.5 yards a game.

Kyeem Perry keeps the Hawks from trouble on returns averaging 26.9 yards per return on kickoffs.  John Kight also helps flip the field averaging 43.6 yards per punt including two over 50+ yards.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
McKendree comes into the contest with a 2-1 record coming off a loss to a familiar foe for the Hawks, Bowie State, last week suffering a 47-41 loss at home.

The Bearcats have a strong leader under center in Reece Metcalf.  Metcalf threw for a career-high 354 yards and added six touchdowns against Bowie State last week.  Metcalf has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.  The senior signal caller leads DII in passing touchdowns (13) and sits fourth in DII in passing efficiency (193.7 rating).

McKendree's offense has been tough to stop inside the redzone scoring on all 11 of its attempts so far this season.  The Bearcats are averaging 36.3 points per contest while allowing 30.7 on the defensive end.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Chowan and McKendree will meet for the first time on the gridiron.  The two teams will face each other next season at McKendree.

ON THIS DATE
Chowan has played twice on September 22 in the Division II era.  The Hawks are 1-1 in game on this date.  Chowan defeated CIAA foe, Shaw, in 2012 by a score of 49-35 with the other contest in 2007 against Brevard, losing 45-7.
