Hawks Men's Soccer Soars Past Shaw In Second Half

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Soccer team used four goals in the second half to take the 2018 season opener, 5-1, against Shaw at home.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Trevin Myers tallied two goals to pace the Hawks offensively.  Harry Garstang and Blake Culig netted their first collegiate goals in the win.  Denis Roule scored in the second half.

Mitchell Levi Lewis, Ioannis Kiotsekoglou, and Toby Sims recorded an assist.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Half:

Chowan and Shaw battled in the first portion of the match until Mitchell Levi Lewis sent a cross from the right side of the box and connected with Trevin Myers along the near post in the 21' to break the scoreless draw.

Shaw would find the equalizer in the 35' on a penalty kick.  The Bears would be held scoreless the remainder of the match.

2nd Half:

The Hawks would strike quickly in the second half as Trevin Myers found the game-winning goal in the 56' from straight away in the box.  In the 58', Harry Garstang would curl a ball in off a direct free kick from the left side of the box for the 3-1 lead.

Late in the contest, Denis Roule would push the advantage to 4-1 after corralling the pass and striking from the top of the box for the goal.

Chowan would add one more off a set piece in the 88' as Ioannis Kiotsekoglou sent in a corner from the right side.  Toby Sims would flick on the attempt and found Blake Culig on the far post for the goal.

UP NEXT

Chowan will travel to Wingate, N.C. to face nationally ranked Wingate on September 5.  The Hawks defeated the Bulldogs last season, 1-0, in Murfreesboro.
