A LOOK BACK AT 2017 AND LOOKING TOWARDS 2018
Chowan finished the 2017 season with a 4-6 overall record and a 4-3 mark in the CIAA.  The Hawks enter year 10 as a member of the CIAA, Chowan was picked to finish seventh overall and fourth in the Northern Division in the preseason poll.
The Hawks made a bit of history this preseason as: Torry Baker, Bonald Boone, and Tyler Bembry were selected Preseason All-CIAA.  Chowan's three selections were the most in program history.
Baker led the wide receivers with 46 receptions for 626 yards and seven touchdowns.  Donald Boone continued to rack up accolades grabbing his second preseason honor after being named Second Team All-CIAA last season.  Defensive lineman, Tyler Bembry, was a force in the backfield posting 10.5 tackles for loss.
Sophomore signal caller, Bryce Witt, returns to lead the offense after a 19 TDs and 1992 yard effort last season.  Tyrell Freeman will look to crack the 1000 yard rushing barrier after finishing just short with 990 yards after a CIAA single-game rushing record of 308 yards in the final game.
SCOUTING THE CAMELS
Campbell wrapped up their 2017 campaign with a 6-5 overall record and a 5-3 mark in the Pioneer Football League.  This season, Campbell enters their first season as a member of the Big South Conference and obtained scholarship status.
The Camels return 18 starters from last season including eight on the offense and seven on the defense.  Despite only playing in seven games, Aaron Blockmon led the Camels in receiving with 576 yards on 27 receptions and five touchdowns.
Daniel Smith, returning quarterback, will have some help in the backfield as Rocky Reid, a transfer from Wake Forest, will be a workhorse for the Camels.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Chowan and Campbell will battle for the "CU" for the third time in the series.  Campbell holds the series lead 2-0.  The Camels took the victory in Murfreesboro in 2016 and in Buies Creek in 2015.
