LOCK HAVEN, PA. – In the opening contest of the NCAA Division II Atlantic I Regionals, the Chowan Softball team battled tough before top-seeded West Chester pulled away, 8-0.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Chowan was held at bay by All-Region pitcher, Amanda Houck, as she limited the Hawks to four base runners and two hits.

Kris Neal and EmaRae Flores picked up one hit each.  Beth Walker and Mackenzie Taggart tallied a walk.

Shannon Buchanan took the loss in the circle to fall to 16-7 on the season.  Shelby Griffis tossed 1.2 innings in relief.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Kris Neal opened the contest with a single up the middle.  Haley Cooper moved Neal over to second but would be left stranded on the bags.

Shannon Buchanan came out strong grabbing a 1-2-3 inning picking up two punchouts.

EmaRae Flores notched the final hit of the contest for the Hawks in the second inning.

West Chester broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second as the Golden Rams scored on a one-out sacrifice fly to lead 1-0.

The Golden Rams would add to their lead in the third inning with three runs on four hits to push the lead to 4-0.

Beth Walker drew a walk in the fourth and Mackenzie Taggart gutted out a walk in the fifth.

WCU tacked on a run in the fourth and the final three runs in the fifth to run-rule the Hawks, 8-0.

Chowan will face No. 5 seeded Shepherd at 1:30pm on Friday, May 11 in an elimination game.
