MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team pounded out 21 hits and hit six home runs to throttle Barton 15-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

Harry Markotay paced the Hawks by extending his hitting streak to 12 games with three hits including two home runs. Julian Lopez, Robert Williams, Tyler Jones, and Trenton Lee picked up three hits each.
Marquise Lanier, Tyler Jones, Trent Brosdahl, and Robert Williams along with Harry Markotay hit a home run in the contest.
Cody Smith picked up his 19th career victory on the bump to put him in sole position of most wins in the DII era. Smith tossed five shutout innings allowing two hits and struck out seven.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Barton picked up a walk and hit by pitch in the top of the second but Cody Smith stranded the runners in scoring position.
The Hawks jumped all over the new pitcher for the Bulldogs as Trent Brosdahl reached on an error to start the inning. Robert Williams picked up a single before Tyler Jones sent the first of three home runs in the inning for a 3-0 lead. Trenton Lee singled before Anthony Jefferson and Harry Markotay drew walks to load the bases. Marquise Lanier kept the ball just fair for a grand slam down the left field line.
Julian Lopez continued the inning with a single to center and swiped second before coming around to score on Nick Rose's double. Trent Brosdahl would give the Hawks a 10-0 lead with a home run to left.
The lead would increase to 12-0 in the bottom of the third inning as Harry Markotay sent the first pitch of the inning over the left field wall. Nick Rose doubled to right center to score Marquise Lanier that reached on a hit by pitch.
CU added two more runs in the fourth inning as Harry Markotay hit his second home run of the game down the left field line. Marquise Lanier doubled down the line and came around to score on a single by Julian Lopez to extend the lead to 14-0.
Robert Williams joined the home run party with a solo blast to left center for the final tally of the contest for the Hawks.
Barton would breakup the shutout in the eighth inning with a run to trim the deficit to 15-1.
