Chowan's Season Comes To A Close In Quarterfinals

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The remarkable season for the Chowan Men's Lacrosse team came to a close at the hands of North Greenville in the Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Championship Quarterfinals on Tuesday evening.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Anthony Alfonso posted a team-high four points notching three assists and a goal.

Nick Lavoy and Alex Clabaugh scored twice in the loss.  RJ Foster tallied a goal and an assist.

DJ Walker stopped a game-high 12 shots in goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Chowan jumped on the board quickly as Anthony Alfonso created a turnover near midfield and quickly moved the ball up to Nick Lavoy for the first tally of the contest.

Following a face-off win, the Hawks tacked on another quick goal as Alex Clabaugh found the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.

The Crusaders answered with two goals before Josh Nicholson found Alex Clabaugh for the 3-2 advantage.

NGU evened the score at 3-all heading to the second period.

Second Quarter:

North Greenville took their first lead of the contest at 4-3 and pushed their lead to 5-3.  Anthony Alfonso found Austin Lee for the lone tally of the period for the Hawks to close the gap to 5-4.

The Crusaders would push their advantage to 8-4 before the halftime whistle.

Third Quarter:

NGU scored early in the period to lead 9-4 as the scoring slowed in the contest.

The Hawks would break the scoreless drought midway through the period as Anthony Alfonso found Nick Lavoy for the goal to close the gap to 9-5.

Noah Holloway was able to finish the man-up advantage as Alex Clabaugh found Holloway in the middle of the attacking zone for the goal.

NGU tallied two goals in the final five minutes of the period to lead 11-6.

Fourth Quarter:

NGU kept the momentum scoring 18 seconds into the final stanza to push their lead to 12-6.

Anthony Alfonso would try to bring the Hawks back with a goal as RJ Foster absorbed a check near midfield and found Alfonso in front of goal for the tally.

The Crusaders countered quickly with two goals within a minute to double the Hawks up 14-7.

RJ Foster scored to counter the NGU goal as the contest came to a close 15-8.
