SUMTER, S.C.-The Chowan Men's Tennis team grabbed their first Conference Carolinas Championship title with a 5-1 victory over Belmont Abbey on Sunday afternoon. 

THE BASICS

NOTABLES:

• Mateusz Izycki and Mariano Yeh were named to the Conference Carolinas All-Championship Team.
• Rafael Goncalves was named 2018 Championship MVP. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
In Doubles:

• The Hawks, Ghassan Alansi and Mariano Yeh fought for the close 8-7 No.1 doubles win while teammates, Mateusz Izycki and Rafael Goncalves defeated their opponents 8-0 at the No.2 doubles match. 
• The Hawks kept the momentum at the No.3 doubles for the 8-7 win with Adi Kaliakperov and Louis Proulx. 

In Singles:

• Blemont Abbey picked up their lone 6-2, 6-2 win over Ghassan Alansi at the No.1 singles match.
• Senior, Rafael Goncalves recovered for the Blue and White at the No.5 singles position, before Mariano Yeh clinched the match win with a 7-6, 6-2 win at the No.6 singles.

The Hawks will advance to compete in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Tournament on April 27-29. The NCAA Championship selection show for pairings for NCAA D2 Southeast Region Men's Tennis Regionals will be released on Tuesday, April 24th, 2017 at 8:00pm. Site selections will also be released at that time.
