BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Lacrosse team picked up their fifth Conference Carolinas win of the season with a 14-11 victory over Lees-McRae on Saturday afternoon.

Tashana Barnett and Alexandria Hammonds led the Hawks' attack with five goals each. Heather Orell scored twice as Leslie Escobar and Jasmine Latney scored once.
Mallory Dunker moved to 5-1 in goal this season stopping nine shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Lees-McRae scored the opening goal of the contest before Tashana Barnett was able to put the Hawks on the board on a free position attempt. Jasmine Latney gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead on a pass from Leslie Escobar. Barnett added to the lead with an unassisted goal midway through the half.
Alexandria Hammonds stretched the lead to 4-1 on a free position goal. The Bobcats would answer with three unassisted goals to knot the contest at 4-all with 2:25 remaining.
Back-to-back goals by Alexandria Hammonds on a free position goal and an assist from Heather Orell put the Hawks up 6-4 at the half.
Second Half:
Another free position goal by Tashana Barnett would open the scoring for the Hawks in the second half to lead 7-4. Leslie Escobar put the Hawks up 8-4 with 22 minutes remaining in the contest.
LMC scored twice before Alexandria Hammonds scored on a free position attempt to push the lead back to three, 9-6. Heather Orell added to the lead before the Bobcats traded a goal with Alexandria Hammonds with just over 11 minutes left in the contest.
Following a Bobcat goal, Tashana Barnett tallied a free position goal to keep the Hawks up 12-9. Heather Orell and Barnett pushed the advantage to 14-9 with 2:08 remaining to give the Hawks the space needed to preserve the victory.
LMC scored twice in the final minute to trim the deficit to 14-11 including a goal with 13 seconds remaining. Alexandria Hammonds sealed the win with the final draw control.
