Hawks Falls To Barton In Twinbill

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games against Barton on the road Thursday afternoon in Wilson, N.C.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES

Beth Walker went 2-3 in the first contest with two RBI. Lindsey Stigler added to her RBI total with four more picking up two RBI in each game. Stigler hit her team-leading eighth home run in the nightcap.

Kris Neal picked up three hits on the afternoon going 2-4 in the nightcap.

Barton drew 15 walks on the afternoon. Shelby Griffis took the loss despite giving up four earned runs (6 unearned) in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Chowan 5, Barton 8

Mackenzie Taggart would pick up a one out base hit and moved over to third on a stolen base and fly out but would be left stranded in scoring position.

Barton tallied four runs in the opening frame on three hits and two walks to lead 4-0 early.

The Hawks were able to get on the scoreboard in the third inning as Miranda Glover singled to left to open the inning. Glover would swipe second and move to third on Kerrin Mailhot's sacrifice bunt. Kris Neal would bring home Glover on a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 4-1.

The Bulldogs added two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on two hits and a Hawks miscue to push the lead to 6-1.

Chowan rallied in the fifth inning plating four runs to trim the deficit to 6-5. Kerrin Mailhot doubled to left with two outs to spark the rally. Kris Neal would reach on an infield single and swipe second base. McKenzie Taggart loaded the bases reaching on a hit-by-pitch. Lindsey Stigler singled up the middle to bring home Mailhot and Neal. Beth Walker would follow suit with a single to center to bring home Taggart and the pinch runner Carleigh Wildeboer to close the gap to 6-5.

Barton added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth inning to take the contest 8-5.

Game Two: Chowan 5, Barton 13 (6)

The Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening inning as Kris Neal reached on an infield single and moved to second on a passed ball. Mackenzie Taggart was the beneficiary of a throwing error and stole second to put two runners in scoring position. Lindsey Stigler would plate the first run with a sacrifice fly before a passed ball allowed Taggart to score.

Barton would trim the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning as a double to start off the inning put pressure on the Hawks. A sacrifice fly would plate the run.

The Bulldogs would take the lead in the bottom of the third inning as an error and wild pitch aided in the rally for Barton to lead 4-2.

Donya Salman would bring the Hawks a run closer reaching on an error and moving to third on the miscue. Salman would come around to score on a passed ball.

Barton would open up the contest with a five run fourth inning to lead 9-3.

Lindsey Stigler would try to swing the momentum in favor of the Hawks with a solo home run to left. Brittany Parson doubled to left with one out and came around to score on EmaRae Flores' single to left to close the gap to 9-5.

The Bulldogs would add a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to take the nightcap 13-5.

UP NEXT

Chowan returns home for the first time since February 25 to face Coker in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 31. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
