Chowan Falls To Nationally Ranked Saints

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Lacrosse team battled against nationally ranked Limestone in a Conference Carolinas contest on Sunday afternoon before falling to the Saints 20-5.

The Hawks recognized Victoria Baez-Quiroz for senior day before the contest.

Alexandria Hammonds tallied two goals and an assist in the loss to lead the Hawks.

Tashana Barnett, Heather Orell, and Leslie Escobar recorded a goal each.  Orell also posted an assist.

Emily Bush took the loss in goal stopping nine shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Limestone jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage before Leslie Escobar corralled her own miss and found the back of the net for the first tally for the Hawks at the 16 minute mark.

The Saints would use a 7-0 goal run to take hold of the contest leading 11-1 with just under five minutes to play in the opening half.

Alexandria Hammonds would close the gap slightly with a goal off a pass from Heather Orell to trim the deficit to 11-2.  Tashana Barnett scored a man-down goal with 1:25 remaining in the half but the Saints scored a goal to close the half.

Second Half:

Limestone added three goals to open the half to extend their lead to 15-3.

Heather Orell netted a free position goal with 20 minutes remaining in the contest.  The Saints would rattle off five straight tallies to push their advantage to 20-4 with 6:08 left.

Alexandria Hammonds found the back of the net for the final goal of the contest with 1:44 remaining.

UP NEXT

Chowan hits the road for the final month of competition with their first stop in Tigerville, S.C. to face Conference Carolinas foe, North Greenville, on March 31.
