MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Lacrosse team used a strong first half to outpace Erskine 19-12 in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

Tashana Barnett and Leslie Escobar netted a hat-trick with four goals each. Escobar tallied an assist for five points on the afternoon.
Alexandria Hammonds and Heather Orell recorded five points as well as Hammonds posted two goals and three assists. Orell dished out four assists and scored once.
Alexandria Hammonds corralled 13 draw controls. Emily Bush picked up her first win in cage stopping 13 shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Chowan fired the first shot of the contest as Jasmine Latney found Leslie Escobar for the first tally of the contest just 82 seconds into the game.
Erskine countered with a goal just over a minute later to knot the contest at 1-all. The Hawks ran off six straight goals to take command of the contest.
Alexandria Hammonds sparked the run with a free position goal. Hammonds created for Sabrina Isch to score a man-down goal 38 seconds later. Hammonds dished out another assist finding Briana Gonzalez for her first goal of the season. Hammonds continued to serve the assists with Heather Orell on the receiving end to put the Hawks up 5-1 just 10 minutes into the half.
Tashana Barnett took control of the draw and hustled up the field. Briana Gonzalez took the pass and dished over to Leslie Escobar for the easy goal just 10 seconds after the Heather Orell goal. Barnett put the Hawks up 7-1 on an unassisted goal.
Erskine was able to cut into the deficit slightly after a man-up goal to trail 7-2. Chowan added three more goals to lead 10-2.
Briana Gonzalez scored her second goal of the contest on a pass from Leslie Escobar. Escobar would find the back of the net herself off a pass from Heather Orell. Tashana Barnett scored a man-up goal on a free position to push the advantage ahead.
After conceding a goal, Leslie Escobar scored off a pass from Sabrina Isch to counter the Fleet goal. Tashana Barnett scored an unassisted goal to give the Hawks a 12-4 lead heading to the intermission.
Second Half:
Erskine cut the deficit in half, 12-6, following two goals to open the half. The tide turned for the moment as Chowan was the beneficiary of a bad pass that resulted in an own-goal.
Heather Orell found Jasmine Latney to keep the Hawks up 14-7. Erskine would cut the deficit to 15-10 with Misten White scoring the lone goal during the slump.
Tashana Barnett and Jasmine Latney pushed the advantage to 17-11 with 10:30 remaining in the contest.
Alexandria Hammonds and Misten White tallied the final two goals for the Hawks to take the 19-12 victory over Erskine.
