MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team split a pair of five inning contests against Barton on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

Lindsey Stigler and Kris Neal recorded three hits each. Donya Salman and Beth Walker tallied two hits apiece.
Kelsey Sonntag, Shannon Buchanan, Beth Walker, and Lindsey Stigler notched two RBI on the day.
Shannon Buchanan pitched five strong innings in the win allowing one run off four hits and striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 11, Barton 1 (Five Innings)
Barton got on the board with the second batter of the contest with a solo home run. Shannon Buchanan settled in getting a strikeout and a ground out to end the inning.
Lindsey Stigler picked up the first hit for the Hawks in the bottom of the first with a double down the right field line.
Chowan would take the lead in the bottom of the second inning with three runs in the inning. Beth Walker started the inning reaching on a fielding error. Miranda Glover drew a walk before Donya Salman singled to load the bases. Mackenzie Taggart and Shannon Buchanan tallied hits to bring in three runs.
The Hawks exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Barton made a pitching change to start the inning. Miranda Glover started the inning with an infield single along with a hit by pitch for Kelsey Sonntag. Both moved up 60 feet on a wild pitch. Donya Salman singled through the right side of the infield to bring home Glover. Lindsey Stigler would bring both home on a single to left.
Beth Walker doubled to keep the inning going scoring Stigler and Kris Neal, who reached on an error. Kelsey Sonntag doubled to bring home two more runs to lead 11-1.
Barton had a runner at second and third in the top of the fifth but the Chowan defense left them stranded to take the opener.
Game Two: Chowan 3, Barton 10 (Five Innings)
The script was flipped for the teams in the night cap as Barton scored two runs in the first and eight runs in the second inning to open the game 10-0 early. Barton was aided by a grand slam in the second inning.
Chowan chipped away at the deficit in the bottom of the fourth inning. Miranda Glover started the inning with a walk before coming around to score on Carliegh Wildeboer's triple. Haley Cooper brought Wildeboer home on a RBI single up the middle.
Miranda Glover proved a tally in the bottom of the fifth inning with a RBI groundout scoring Brittany Parson.
The contest was called after the fifth in result of darkness.

Chowan continues the trend against Conference Carolinas opponents when the Hawks travel to Belmont, N.C. to face Belmont Abbey in non-conference play on Thursday, February 8. First pitch is slated for 1pm.
