CU Hoops Host VUU Panthers, Men's Game Televised

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's and Women's Basketball programs will host Virginia Union on Saturday, February 3, for Braves Hawks Day.  The men's contest will be televised on AspireTV.

Men's Basketball (Game Notes)

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan dropped to 7-11 on the season and 2-7 in CIAA action following their northern road swing to Bowie State and Lincoln (Pa.) last weekend.  Chowan defeated Elizabeth City State during the television contest last season, 79-77, at home.

The Hawks have three players in double-figures in scoring.  Tim Hewett leads the team with 17.1 points per night and is a point better per outing in league play.  Gus Rowland and Robert Grubbs adds 12.3 points each to the scoring.

Dino Muminovic has thrown a block party since his arrival on campus.  The senior transfer has produced 53 blocks so far this season.  Muminovic sits fifth in the nation in total blocks.

PANTHER PRIDE
Virginia Union enters the meeting with an 11-11 record and 6-4 record in CIAA play.  The Panthers are on a two game skid and 4-6 on the road this season.

Kory Cooley leads the team with 12.3 points a night with James Paige netting 12.1 points per outing.  The Panthers feature depth on the bench as 11 players average more than 10 minutes a game.

Women's Basketball (Game Notes)

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan rebounded in their win against Lincoln (Pa.) on the road over the weekend to move to 15-4 on the season and 7-2 in CIAA play.  The Hawks sit at 3-1 in the Northern Division behind unbeaten Virginia Union (4-0).

The Hawks slid to #9 in the recent D2SIDA polls after splitting their northern road trip.  The Hawks peaked at #7 this season on several occasions.

The Blue and White is led by seniors Dhyamond Crenshaw and Chantel Roberts.  Crenshaw leads the team with 17.7 points per game.  Roberts is averaging a double-double in CIAA play this season at 17.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per outing.

Mariah Coker chips in with 12.1 points and 5.85assists per contest.  Danielle Weldon adds to the mix with 11.3 points and 7.8 rebounds a game.  Weldon is coming off a career-high 23 points against Lincoln.

PANTHER PRIDE
Virginia Union enters the Helms Center with the second longest win streak in the country (20) behind defending National Champions, Ashland.  The Panthers are 20-1 and 10-0 in CIAA action.  VUU will look to avenge their two losses to the Hawks from last season.

The Panthers are led by Alexis Johnson off the bench scoring 16.6 points per night and 9.0 rebounds.  Rachael Pecota adds 16.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest.  VUU's duo of the McNeill twins (Shareka and Shameka) provide a spark with a combined 21.3 points.
