MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Basketball team continues to ride the momentum as the Hawks dealt Fayetteville State a 72-61 loss in CIAA action on Thursday evening.

Michael Kelly notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Gus Rowland posted a near triple-double with 11 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds.
Timothy Bing led the Hawks with 22 points, while Demetrius Sanders registered 19 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Fayetteville State jumped out to a quick 5-0 run, but the Hawks countered with a 7-0 run to take the lead, 7-5.  Timothy Bing tallied a layup and a three-pointer along with a Michael Kelly layup.
The lead would swap hands as Timothy Bing, Demetrius Sanders, and Gus Rowland tallied a bucket.  A dunk by Demetrius Sanders allowed the Hawks to start to pull away.  Timothy Bing added a layup along with a three-pointer by Demetrius Sanders gave the Hawks a 20-12 advantage.
Robert Grubbs knocked down a three before back-to-back buckets by Timothy Bing gave the Hawks a double-digit advantage, 27-17.
Timothy Bing tallied four of the final six points, Brandon Mayhan with a pair from the stripe, to send the Hawks into the locker room with a 33-23 lead.
Second Half:
Gus Rowland put the Hawks on the board in the second half before Robert Grubbs tallied a three-pointer to force a timeout by Fayetteville State, 38-25.
Demetrius Sanders, Michael Kelly, and Timothy Bing pushed the advantage to 17, 44-27, before the Broncos would chip away at the deficit to pull to within 11, 46-35, with 15:17 to play.
Michael Kelly scored the next seven points with a three-pointer and an old-fashioned three-point play.  Gus Rowland and Demetrius Sanders tallied buckets to give the Hawks a 20 point lead, 61-41, midway through the final half.
Four straight freebies by Gus Rowland kept the Broncos at-bay.  Six free throws down the stretch allowed the Hawks to maintain the lead despite the push back by the Broncos as Chowan took the victory 76-61.
