FLORENCE, S.C – The Chowan Women's Basketball team was handed their second straight loss as Francis Marion prevailed 67-56 on Monday evening.

Jahkeria Bagby posted a career-high 14 points to lead the Hawks. Jada Lee notched 10 points and eight assists in the loss. Joanne Williams chipped in with 10 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Chowan struggled from the floor early hitting 1-10 early as the Patriots led 11-4. Jahkeria Bagby connected for the first points for the Hawks from the free throw line. Bagby added a lay-up midway through the half as the score was knotted up at 4-all. Francis Marion went on a 7-0 run to lead 11-4 to force a timeout.
Destiny Robinson would end the run with a jumper with 2:00 left in the quarter. The Patriots extended the lead to 15-6 before Jada Lee hit a jumper to end the quarter, 15-9.
Second Quarter:
FMU started the quarter on a quick run to lead by double-figures before Joanne Williams tallied the first bucket of the quarter for the Hawks.
Kaylah Henderson and Jada Lee would trim the deficit to six, 23-17 as Lee tallied to quick buckets. Lee added another jumper before a Joanne Williams lay-up cut the deficit to three, 24-21, with 2:27 left in the half.
Jahkeria Bagby would take over the quarter with the final six points. Bagby started the run with an old-fashioned three-point play. Bagby would convert again on the three-point play on the next trip down the floor to end the quarter with the Hawks trailing 28-27.
Third Quarter:
Danielle Weldon started the scoring for the Hawks with a lay-up to keep the deficit manageable early in the quarter. Weldon converted the three-point play to trim the deficit to 35-32.
Jordan Pettway knocked down a jumper following a steal by Kaylah Henderson cut the FMU lead to 35-34 after the media timeout. Pettaway would give the Hawks their first lead of the contest, 37-35, with a triple with 3:29 remaining in the quarter.
Both teams would swap the lead late in the quarter with Jahkeria Bagby regaining the lead before Jada Lee knocked down a jumper to even the contest at 41-all heading to the final stanza.
Fourth Quarter:
Joanne Williams tallied back-to-back buckets to remain even with the Patriots early in the quarter. The Patriots went on a 7-2 run with Williams' recording the lone bucket to push the FMU advantage to 52-47 at the media timeout.
Kaylah Henderson knocked down a three-pointer to get the Hawks moving. Danielle Weldon recorded back-to-back jumpers to keep the Patriots at arms-length trailing 58-54.
FMU finished off the contest with a 9-2 run, mostly at the charity stripe to hand the Hawks their second straight defeat.
