Chowan Shuts Out Barton For Spot In Semifinals

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Soccer team advanced to the Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Championship Semifinals with a 2-0 victory over Barton on Monday afternoon at home.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Jake Jensen scored his first collegiate goal and registered the game winner.  Danny Gallegos tallied his first goal of the season.

Harry Garstang picked up the assist on the Jake Jensen goal.  Jensen tallied an assist in the win.

Elliot Chadderton picked up the win in goal stopping the two shots on target by the Bulldogs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Neither side was able to find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes of play.  Barton recorded one shot in the period, which was blocked.

Harry Garstang had two attempts at goal but sailed them high and to the right.  Harry Ardron tallied the lone shot on frame, but was saved.  Denis Roule posted a shot that went high.

Second Half:

On the first shot of the second half, Harry Garstang played the ball to the left side of the box to Jake Jensen.  Jensen would curl the attempt through the defender's legs and found the far post for the 1-0 lead in the 50'.

Toby Sims looked to give the Hawks a 2-0 advantage in the 67' but his headed attempt bounced off the post.

Barton tallied two shots on frame in the half, both were easy saves by Elliot Chadderton.

In the 88', Jake Jensen played up the right side of the pitch and moved towards the touch line.  Jensen would thread a pass over to Danny Gallegos, who finished far post for the 2-0 lead.

UP NEXT

Chowan will advance in the Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Championship, as the Hawks will face the seventh-seeded Emmanuel Lions on Thursday, November 1.  Emmanuel upset No. 2 Belmont Abbey, 1-0.  The Hawks will wait for the semifinal location, as top-seeded Limestone plays at 7pm.
