MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Chowan Volleyball rolled through Elizabeth City State in CIAA action on Friday afternoon defeating the Vikings 3-1.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Micayla Pope led the Hawks in the contest with a near triple double. Pope tallied 28 assists, 11 digs, and eight service aces in the contest.
Alyssa Born recorded 21 digs, while Sydney Hiner posted 13 digs. Breona Young led the charge offensively with nine kills. Milica Vejnovic and Courtney O'Keefe registered eight kills each. Young and O'Keefe had two solo blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Chowan jumped out to an early 13-2 lead to force an ECSU timeout. Courtney O'Keefe started off the match with a block. O'Keefe would post two kills along with service aces by Micayla Pope and Milica Vejnovic. Two kills by Kayla Gates forced the timeout.
ECSU came out of the timeout with a small run to close the gap to 17-7. Two errors pushed the Hawks forward to 19-8.
A kill by Breona Young and a service ace by Micayla Pope pushed the lead to 24-11. Courtney O'Keefe finished the set with a kill, 25-13.
Second Set:
In a change of pace for Chowan, the Vikings would take the second set, 25-18. The Vikings would double up the Hawks early, 12-6, to force a timeout. A block by Courtney O'Keefe and Breona Young would chip away at the deficit.
Milica Vejnovic tallied a kill and a service ace by Micayla Pope brought the Hawks to 15-12.
Three mini runs by the Vikings allowed ECSU to take the set, 25-18.
Third Set:
Chowan would go back to the game plan and lead 12-3 early in the set. The Hawks were aided by numerous attacking errors.
A 5-0 run with Sydney Hiner serving allowed the Hawks to lead 17-5. Hiner tallied an ace along with a kill by Milica Vejnovic and Breona Young.
Micayla Pope would serve the Hawks to a set victory as Milica Vejnovic, Courtney O'Keefe, and Breona Young tallied kills during the rally to take the set 25-11.
Fourth Set:
Chowan would win the first 12 points in the set as Micayla Pope started off the set serving. Five Viking errors and three service aces aided the rally.
The Hawks would continue to push forward with a kill by Kayla Gates and a block by Breona Young. Three straight kills by Young pushed the advantage to 23-7.
Courtney O'Keefe finished the match with a kill, 25-10.
