CHOWAN'S OFFENSE ROLLING

Chowan is averaging 37.8 points per game this season and posting 45.0 points per game at home.  The Hawks scored 42 points last week against preseason front runner in the CIAA Northern Division, Bowie State.

The Hawks maintained the ball for 32:17 of the contest against the Bulldogs, second most this season.  Chowan controlled the contest with 43 rushes and only 28 passes, a season-low in passing attempts.  Chowan's defense forced two turnovers, one for a touchdown, and blocked a kick, while the offense secured the ball without turning the ball over.

STOPPING THE PANTHERS' PROWL

Virginia Union moved to the top of the CIAA Northern Division following last week's 90-0 win over Lincoln (Pa.).  The Panthers are 4-1 this season, 3-0 in the CIAA and 1-0 in the Northern Division.

The Panthers numbers inflated following the win as VUU puts up 46.4 points per game, while holding their opponents to just 19.8 a contest.

VUU has shown a run-heavy attack with 219 attempts on the season for 1301 yards, the Panthers have thrown the ball 133 times.  Tabyus Taylor leads the attack with 699 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground following his 235 yards and three scores against Lincoln.

INSIDE THE SERIES

Chowan and Virginia Union will meet for the 11th time in the series as the Panthers lead the series 7-3.  All three wins against VUU have come in Murfreesboro.  The Hawks defeated the Panthers in 2016, 54-21, but fell last season in Richmond, 35-10.

ON THIS DATE

Chowan has played twice on October 13 and has a 1-1 record.  The Hawks dropped a decision to Coastal Carolina in 2007 but bounced back with a 28-21 victory over Virginia Union in 2012.
