MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's and Women's Basketball kick-off the new year with a CIAA doubleheader against Winston-Salem State on Saturday, January 6. The contests was originally scheduled to tip at 2pm and 4pm respectively. With the weather affecting multiples contests in the region, the doubleheader with Winston-Salem State will begin at 4pm and 6pm.

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan ended 2017 on a sour note with a 72-69 loss to nationally ranked Wingate on New Year's Eve. The Hawks are 11-2 this season and 3-0 in the early portion of the CIAA schedule.
The Hawks continue to move up in the D2SIDA Atlantic Regional poll climbing to #7 this week. Chowan peaked at #6 in the NCAA Atlantic Regional poll during the 2015-16 season.
The Hawks are led by seniors Dhyamond Crenshaw and Chantel Roberts. Crenshaw leads the team with 17.4 points per game. Roberts is close behind with 15.2 ppg and 8.5 rebounds per contest. Mariah Coker chips in with 12.2 points and a shade under five dimes a game. Danielle Weldon adds to the mix with 11.3 points and 8.2 rebounds a game.
ABOUT THE RAMS
Winston-Salem State is 5-7 on the season and 0-3 in CIAA play. The Rams play at Virginia State tonight before coming to Murfreesboro on Saturday.
WSSU is ranked fifth in points per game at 71.8and fourth in rebounds per game at 43.9.

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan will look to turn their fortunes as the Hawks have dropped to a 4-7 record and 0-3 in CIAA play.
Chowan is led by senior Tim Hewett averaging 17.4 points per game. Robert Grubbs (13.1) and Demetrius Sanders (11.2) are also in double-figures.
In the month of December, Tim Hewett averaged 19.6 points per game. Robert Grubbs (16.0) and Dino Muminovic (11.2) have posted a strong month as well. Muminovic added 9.8 rebounds per contest to the mix.

Winston-Salem State is 4-8 on the season and 2-1 in CIAA play. WSSU travels to Virginia State tonight before heading to Murfreesboro.
The Rams are led offensively by former CIAA Rookie of the Year, Robert Colon, and William Crandell. Both Rams are averaging 17.3 points per game. Crandell leads the squad in rebounds (7.9).
